In November 2015, AEI’s Southwest Environmental Operations completed a highly complex remedial action within a wetland area at the Military Ocean Terminal Concord, in Concord, California. The completion of this environmental restoration project had been outstanding for 30 years, until our Southwest Environmental Ops team came along and successfully achieved the Army’s longstanding goal of protecting several endangered species in the area including the Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse, California Black Rail, and Western Pond Turtle. A rare approach to executing a remedial action in the Lower 48, the project was written up and submitted to the Society for Military Engineers’ magazine, The Military Engineer, earning placement on the cover of this month’s issue.
